Lesson Overview
Summary: Design and create a device to take the bounce out of a bouncy ball.
Description: The challenge is to see if you can design and create a device that takes the bounce out of a bouncy ball.
Check out the resource, “How Does Rubber Bounce” to begin the process and learn why and how rubber bounces. After you have learned about what makes a bouncy ball bounce, begin designing and prototyping your anti-bouncy ball device using materials found around the house (and let’s not get too wasteful and use a whole roll of paper towel or empty the Kleenex box). The goal is to take the bounce out of your bouncy ball when dropped from a height of four feet.
Extension: Let’s raise the height! Let’s go from four to six to eight feet, You’ll need an adult, but let’s see how high you can go and if your device can take the bounce out of the bouncy ball.
