Lesson Overview

Teacher Overview:

This project has students in 5th-6th grade building a table for plants.  We need tables for our greenhouse and we want to be able to water the plants and have the water drip onto the ground.  We searched the Internet and found the perfect table that uses wire closet racks as the table tops. Visit this website to learn how to build it.  http://www.hansenwoodlandfarm.com/greenhouse-planting-bench.html

Student Summary:

You have been commissioned to build tables for our new school greenhouse.  Each person in your group has specific tasks to complete. Use this website to make a plan.  Your table needs to be a rectangular prism.  It is very important that you have 90 degree angles and that your cuts are to the nearest sixteenth of an inch.  You need to measure each board and used a square to mark the cuts. You will use a chop saw to cut the boards. Your teacher will show you how.  Capture footage of your table. You will add wire shelving to the top of the table frame so water can drip through.
